About Us

The Pre-school opened on 28th April 2003. It is registered with Ofsted (EY252356) and with the Charity Commission (1097997).

The Management Committee, elected annually by the Church Meeting at Westbury Baptist Church, has overall responsibility for the running of the Pre-school. Our Committee is chaired by Howard Nuttall who is also the Treasurer and has been on the committee since 2013. He is supported by Anne MacFarlane and Becca Finamore. The day to day running of the Pre-school is the responsibility of our Team Leader, Sue Perry, a qualified primary school teacher with the help of her Deputy and Early Years Practitioners. Administration is handled by the Administrator, Claire Hanson.

Throughout the academic year, we welcome between 20 and 35 children each day. Every day, the children enjoy a wide range of educational activities in a happy and relaxed atmosphere both indoors and outdoors - working within the new statutory framework of the EYFS 2017 as laid down by Ofsted and supported by Early Years Advisor Teachers from Bristol City Council. We are currently open each day from 9.00am – 12.00 noon and opportunity is provided for children to stay until 1.00pm with a packed lunch. We also now offer extended provision on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.00am – 3.00pm.

The Pre-school has been awarded the prestigious Bristol Standard in 2017 having held it for the previous 9 years.

We were last inspected by Ofsted – 27th June 2018 and were classified as “good”

Pre-school and the local community

The pre-school reach out to the wider local community, we regularly sing to a group of elderly people who come to lunch on Tuesdays at the church. We also welcome visitors to share their cultural experiences e.g. Welsh costumed ladies sharing St David’s day with us, and also invite members of the community to explain and share their role with us e.g. visits from police, vets & doctors.  We also welcomed a lady who talked about and brought in 2 of her chickens which the children thoroughly enjoyed!

Staff

The Pre-School staff members are all qualified and experienced in working with children. There are 2 members of staff who have Qualified Teacher Status. In order to keep up to date, staff regularly attend relevant training courses, including Child Protection and Paediatric First aid. All staff have an Enhanced DBS check (previously known as CRB). The Staff to Child ratio is 1:8.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead for Pre-school is Sue Perry, our Team Leader.
